School Safety and the Second Amendment:

I do not support any further infringements of the 2nd Amendment. All of the restrictions placed on the constitutional right of law abiding Americans to purchase firearms have done nothing at all to stop the violence in our country. Violence has continued to increase right along with the increase in the number of infringements placed on the 2nd Amendment. That is because this approach does not even begin to address the root cause of the problem. Why does our country produces so many violently disturbed people who don’t value their own life more less the lives of anyone else? The violence in America will only continue to escalate until we begin to address this problem. That is why I support increased mental health screening to detect and identify problematic individuals who pose a threat to society. I support other proactive measures to recognize and treat mentally ill people before they commit a crime. There should be at least one armed security guard at every school. Every teacher should carry a Taser, and properly trained teachers who want to carry a concealed weapon should be encouraged to do so. I would also encourage local school districts to install metal detectors outside of every entrance and all other doors should be locked from the inside, but I believe that each of these measures should be decided locally by individual school districts in consultation with parents and teachers. My motto is "A Taser in every teacher's purse, a buzzer under every teacher's desk, a security guard on every school floor, and a metal detector outside of every school door."
