Scott Rohter for Oregon Senate

Senate District 4 Debate - Floyd Prozanski (D) and Scott Rohter (R) Eugene City Club 10/12/18

Update October 20, 2018
The race for who will be representing Oregon voters in Senate District 4 next year is one of the most important races in Oregon. This largely rural district has been so badly gerrymandered by Democrats that it includes almost half the population of the City of Eugene which is why it is so hard for a Republican to win. Senate District 4 and Senate District 6 have not sent a Republican or a conservative to Salem in many years. These rural communities deserve to be represented and they should be combined into a single district so they have someone in Salem who actually represents their interests, while voters in Eugene should be combined in another District so their views are represented as well. The reason this hasn't been done is because Democrats have been in control in Salem for most of the last 40 years.

My Democrat opponent has raised over 100,000 to ensure his re-election. I refuse to raise money because money is what is so wrong with our political system. People only get one vote and alll of their money should not be able to buy them any more influence or power than anyone else... The rich shouldn't get more. The poor shouldn't get less. Furthermore corporations and labor unions don't have a vote and they should they be allowed to influence our elections by spending huge sums of money to sway public opinion.

My choice not to raise or spend vast sums of money is probably why most of the local news media are largely ignoring my campaign. I have tried on numerous occasions to get these so called news reporters interested in covering the important issues I am raising. The Register Guard did publish my guest editorial on why the McKenzie Highway is the single greatest threat to public safety in Lane County, and Tom Adams of KVAL hosted a Eugene City Club debate between Floyd Prozanski and me on October 12th, 2018. The debate can be listened to here at Senate District 4 Debate - Floyd Prozanski (D) and Scott Rohter (R) Eugene City Club 10/12/18. Other than that you haven't heard a single peep about me in the so called "news media". I guess they don't think it is their financial interests to cover this race... Meanwhile despite numerous phone calls to the news director at KEZI this ABC affiliate never even once reported on the Senate District 4 race. All the radio stations in the area except for KNND in Cottage Grove and KSLM in Salem have refused to ask me on their program and Bill Lundun of KPNW hasn't returned a single one of my phone calls in over four months. That tells you a lot about him. Finally Lars Larson thinks way too much of himself and far too little of me to even consider inviting me on HIS show. The Lars Larson show is just about Lars.

There are only three political races in Oregon that can possibly affect the balance of power in Salem next year. One of these is the race I am running in for Senate District 4. Currently the Oregon Senate is composed of 17 Democrats and 13 Republicans. If just one Senate seat changes hands then the numbers become 16/14, but because of one conservative Democrat who frequently votes with Republicans it essentially becomes a 15/15 tie. This means that no legislation could be passed without Republican support. That would give Republicans the voice in Salem that they have been lacking for many years. This would even be a stronger voice if our next Governor is Knute Buehler. That is why this race for Senate District 4 is so important

Oregon Senate District 4 is a very geographically diverse region which incorporates many small rural communities in Lane and Douglas Counties. It also includes a large portion of central and south Eugene. In the northeast along Highway 126 it includes the communities of Vida, Blue River, and McKenzie Bridge. Along Highway 58 in the southeast it includes part of Pleasant Hill, and all of Westfir, and Oakridge. Between these two highways Senate 4 includes the communities of Jasper, Lowell, and Dexter.

In the northwest Senate District 4 includes Veneta, Elmira, Noti, Walton, Cheshire, and Alvadore. It includes the area around Fern Ridge Reservoir which has a Junction City address. In the south Senate District 4 stretches from Creswell to North Roseburg. It includes Cottage Grove, Oakland, Yoncalla, Sutherlin, Glide, and North Roseburg. From there District 4 extends west along Highway 38 to Drain and Elkton.

Three State highways tie this wide area together, and the safety of these highways is a vital concern to me. It is one of the reasons that I chose to run for State Senator.

My district offers some of the most beautiful and scenic places to visit in the entire State of Oregon including Clear Lake, Tennis Lake, Sahalie Falls, Koosah Falls, Proxy Falls, the Aufterhide highway, the McKenzie River, and many other places that draw people from all over the world to hike and fish, and just to experience the best that Oregon has to offer. Below are a few pictures of the district that I hope to represent in the Oregon Legislature next year. With your vote that will become a reality. Thank you for helping to keep Oregon safe.
