All that is Good and Bad About America is on Display in Arizona Shootings
By Scott Rohter - January 2011
Everything that is good and bad about America was on display in Arizona in the aftermath of the shootings that took place in Tucson on Sunday, January 9th, 2011. There was of course the evil deed itself, committed by the young 22 year old killer, who boasted about how well he had planned to commit these senseless acts of violence. Then there were the brave heroes who stepped forward and laid their own lives on the line for others, in order to take down the deranged assassin, and prevent him from doing more harm. A couple of them tackled the shooter and put him flat on the ground while another grabbed a fresh magazine and prevented him from reloading his deadly weapon. Enough good words cannot be said about those fine and brave people, who willingly laid everything on the line and came forward to help others, at great personal risk to themselves! That is the “stuff of greatness.” A split second decision made at a moments notice that separates the great from the ordinary among us, and for which all the praise, and a lifetime full of gratitude from the rest of us is never enough! Thank God there are such people around!
Then, there was the skill and determination of all the dedicated medical professionals who labored tirelessly to save the surviving victims and still continue to do so to this day! The remarkable composure of the father of 9 year old Christina Green, who was born on September 11, 2001, and gunned down in the innocence of her young life, personally left me speechless. I know where such peace of mind comes from, but it is very rare to ever see a finer example of it!...and then there was the geninue heartfelt apologies of the shooter’s parents, who sought forgiveness for the pain and sorrow that their wayward son had caused to so many others. The parents of that deranged killer will never again be the same either. They will bare their sorrow to the grave too!
Finally, there is the politics of it all. Almost everything in our country, if you look below the surface, has politics mixed in with it and so politics was on display here too. Democratic pundits and politicians from the get-go, immediately tried to blame the shootings on the Tea Party, Conservative Talk Radio, and Sarah Palin. (Please read my other article “Arizona Mass Murders / Democrats and Lib Media Rush to Play the Blame Game”.) They included Chris Matthews, Joe Klein, The Daily Coast, Politico, The Huffington Post and leading left-wing politicians like Congressman Kurt Sharader and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz. In other words, all of the usual culprits. They shamelessly tried to exploit this crime for their own partisan political purposes, like clamping down on legitimate freedom of speech, (from the opposition of course), or trying to take away American's second amendment right to possess a firearm, or passing more laws to attempt to regulate every conceivable aspect of human behavior, which of course is the definition of tyranny, isn’t it? You can’t legislate away evil, however you sure can increase the size and power of the government in the process of trying to, and increase its control over your lives!
How many times do liberals need to hear this? Guns don’t kill people! People kill people! And, they can kill people with guns, cars, knives, forks, airplanes, or even with box cutters just a easily as they can with guns! Are we going to ban all of these things too? The fact is that if more good people would have been armed at the Congresswomen’s public event, perhaps the killer would not have been able to fire off as many rounds as he did before he was brought down! On the other hand, if you ban fire arms from such events, the only people willing to obey such a law are the law-abiding citizens who would never think of gunning down innocent people! The killer wouldn’t care about a gun ban! He is willing to die or go to jail for a very long time for murder. He wouldn’t care about an additional federal firearms charge! If you liberals want to ban all weapons, you are either misguided or just plain stupid! As someone else said, “Liberalism is a mental disorder”. I’m sure that liberal defense attorneys and liberal judges, and maybe even a liberal jury or two, will try to get the charges against Jared Loughner, the Arizona shooter, reduced through some kind of a mental disorder plea or an insanity defense.“Liberalism [ truly] is a mental disorder.” Michael Savage.
