Barack Obama has said many things over the last four years to pony up to voters. Whatever he says has absolutely no relation to what he does or to how he really thinks. Everything that this man says is used for some short term political advantage. President Obama is a great political gamesman of the first order.
Here is a selected sampling of just some of his broken promises.
[ On Running for President ] In 2004 before he was even a U.S. Senator, Barack Obama said that he would not run for President in the next election.”
Based upon what has happened to our country, many Americans wish that he would have kept his promise!
[ On Taxes and Spending ] As Senator Obama, he said that he was against raising the debt ceiling. He said that George Bush had failed as a leader, and adding 4 trillion dollars to the National Debt was “unpatriotic.”
But as President, he has raised the debt ceiling at least three more times, and added four more trillion dollars to the National Debt!
[ On the Bush Tax Cuts ] In 2008 President Obama said that there would be no new taxes in any form for those families making less than $250,000 a year.
Then he signed “The Affordable Care Act” which contains at least seven different tax hikes as well as new taxes!
[ On Tax Credits for Child Care ] In 2008 President Obama said that as President, he would increase the tax credits for child care and dependent care, and make these credits refundable.
He has not done that and there has been no expansion for the Child Care Tax Credit!
[ On Pay Go ] Shortly after entering the White House President Obama signed “PAY GO” legislation which demanded that all expenditures be paid for with existing revenue unless specifically dedicated for a National emergency. The Democrats in Congress started using a loophole to bypass this legislation almost immediately after it was passed.. President Obama touted that a previous extension of unemployment benefits was fully paid for, however he later blasted Republicans in Congress for not continuing to extend those same benefits without paying for them!
[ On Earmarks ] In his 2008 campaign President Obama’s said that as President, “he would reduce earmarks to less than $7.8 billion a year, the level that they were before 1994″.
Earmarks for fiscal year 2010 were almost double that. They were more than $15 billion! That is just another broken promise!
[ On alleged Bush Violations of Law ] President Obama claimed that George Bush violated the U.S. Constitution. Later Mr. Obama carried out his own warrantless wiretaps, indefinite detentions, and secret renditions! He also quadrupled drone attacks, and kept Guantanamo Bay open. When Barack Obama was a United States Senator he voted against the Patriot Act, but as the President of the United States he turned around and supported its extension! Talk about major flip-flops!
[ On Unemployment ] Barack Obama vowed that the unemployment rate would stay below 8% if his Stimulus Bill was passed. The fact is it has never been below 8% since the first day he took office. Instead the unemployment rate has actually risen to over 10%, and that is just the official figure!
[ On Healthcare ] President Obama vowed that if you like your current health care plan, you would be allowed to keep it. But then he threw seniors off their Medicare Plus Plans. And employers are now saying that they will have to dump millions of people onto the Public Exchange created by the Affordable Care Act! There is also the not so small matter of the 700 billion dollars in Medicare cuts to help pay for Obamacare!
[ On Political Lobbyists ] President Obama said that political lobbyists wouldn’t work in the White House when he became President! Then he proceeded to give them all their employment waivers so that they could continue to work there! It is estimated that there are at least sixty paid political lobbyists that “work-over” at the White House!
[ On Campaign Financing ] Then Senator Barack Obama vowed to take public financing for his 2008 Presidential campaign.
However he refused to accept public financing later when it became clear that he would receive more money without it!
There is no flip-flopping there certainly!
[ On the GM Plant Closure in Janesville Wisconsin ] In 2008 candidate Barack Obama said, “I believe that if our government is there to support you … this plant will be here for another hundred years.” That’s what he said in 2008.
Paul Ryan recently observed, “Well as it turns out that plant didn’t survive another year. It is locked up and empty to this day.” And the lapdog liberal media keeps trying to say that Paul Ryan is misrepresenting the facts here!.. Yeah right!
[ On Transparency in Government ] The Obama Administration vowed to increase transparency in government across the board, including the Freedom of Information Act, the proactive release of documents, and the establishment of an agency to declassify more than 370 million pages of archived material.
Some of these high-profile transparency measures have been stalled, and by some estimates the government is keeping even more secrets today than they did before!
[ On Un-Constitutional Wars ] So just how many Libyans have died under President Obama's call to arms? The bombing of Libya was Barack Obama’s personal doing. This was an undeclared war on Libya, launched by the United States, and our Congress wasn’t even consulted! Later they failed to do anything about it!
[ On Shovel Ready Jobs ] President Obama said that he had plenty of shovel ready jobs, and he would create work for many Americans!
Oh, but wait! I guess they weren't so “shovel ready” after all. There are still 25 million unemployed or under employed Americans! The primary thing being shoveled around here by the Obama Administration is the Bull.
[ On Gun Control ] President Obama knows that Americans will not fail to support their Second Amendment Right to keep and bear arms, and that calling for any form of gun control will be resisted and it will only hurt his re-election chances in November, so after the mass shootings in Colorado he preferred to let the mainstream media politicize the massacre and make those calls for more gun control. It was purely a crass political consideration on his part!
[ On Mandates ] As a Presidential candidate in 2008 Barack Obama said , “If mandates were the proper solution we could solve homelessness by mandating that everybody buy a house.” This was not the only time that Barack Obama argued against mandates. http://www.unitedliberty.org/articles/10952-pandering-to-idiots-how-obama-is-worse-than-romney
Yet after he became President he incorporated individual mandates as the center piece of his signature piece of legislation, The Affordable Care Act!
President Obama's excuse for all of his failures is to blame somebody else, usually George Bush or the Republican Congress. The truth is that for the first two years of his term the Democrats controlled the White House and both Houses of Congress! Then he had no excuse! He is manufacturing a myth. It is just a fabricated, after-the-fact attempt to escape accountability for his own words, his own promises, and his own record of failure!
