“The most enviable praise of all is just to be called an honest man.” – George Washington

Watching the Truth Stand Up to a Pack of Lies
Straight Talking, Truth Telling Texan
-by Scott Rohter, September 2011

“I would much rather be found guilty of making a serious mistake in judgment, than be accused of being even a little bit insincere.” –John Quincy Adams, reprisal

Our two greatest Presidents were both known as honest men.  It is said of George Washington, that he chopped down the cherry tree and could not tell a lie. And Abraham Lincoln, our sixteeth President, who lead our nation through the perilous times of the Civil War, is frequently referred to as Honest Abe Lincoln.  Watching Governor Perry slug it out today with Governor Romney is like watching the truth stand up to a pack of lies and innuendo!  Take for instance Governor Perry’s recent comments about Social Security.  He said that “Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme,” and that “we can’t do that to our children!”  That is the God’s honest truth.  Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme.  It may not have been originally designed to be a Ponzi Scheme, but that’s just what it has become now, or at least that’s what it would be called if anyone else, other than the Federal Government was peddling such a program!  And Governor Perry is right on this count too.  We can’t continue to do that to our children, in other words, we can’t promise them that if they pay into the Social Security System now, that it will still be there for them when they retire in the future, when it is actually going broke before our eyes!  We can’t do this to them if we care about them!  The definition of a Ponzi Scheme is an investment operation which pays benefits or returns based upon the subsequent payments of future investors. Governor Perry never said that he wanted to eliminate Social Security!  I heard what he said.  He finds fault with this Social Security System as it exists today, as millions of other Americans do, and I expect that he wants to fix it, and improve it so that it can better live up to its original purpose, and so it will still be around for our kids in the future!

When Mitt Romney attacked Governor Perry’s position on Social Security, he said that Social Security is not a Ponzi Scheme, but he is either deliberately lying, or he doesn’t know what the heck he is talking about.  And he said that he would not get rid of it. But he never said that it was bordering on bankrupt, and that it needed fixing, or just how he would fix it if he was elected President, so that it will remain viable in the future.  Instead, he implied that Governor Perry wanted to get rid of the social safety net, which is absolutely not true! This is something that Governor Perry never said!  So Mr. Romney is engaging in lies, half-truths and innuendo.  How would you like to have a Republican President who uses lies and half-truths speaking to you from the bully pulpit?  It sounds to me like it wouldn’t be that much different than what we already have right now, with President Obama in the WhiteHouse!...  And Romney and Obama are really very similar in other ways too, including their perspectives on government run healthcare.  Or would you prefer this time around to have a real straight talking, truth telling Texan in the WhiteHouse, one who doesn’t mince words when it comes to telling you what he is thinking, or what is actually going on in your country, and in the world?
