"Winning the Future" is Spinning the Past
Newt Gingrich Political Action Committee is Just Spinning the Past

By  Scott Rohter, March 2012

The Newt Gingrich political action committee, “Winning the Future” is more worried about spinning the past than it is about winning the future.  It is more concerned about spinning everything in Newt Gingrich’s past than it is about winning anything except perhaps the next Republican primary for Newt!  And this political action committee has less to do with America’s future than it has to do with Newt’s immediate plans for his own future.  Finally Newt’s PAC is not about winning the future for America as much as it is about winning the Republican nomination for Newt Gingrich, or more precisely getting him a front and center seat at the table in Tampa, Florida while at the same time threatening to deny outright the Republican nomination to either Mitt Romney or Rick Santorum.  That’s what Newt’s so called “Wining the Future” PAC is all about.  It’s all about Mr. Speaker, just as it has always been all about Mr. Speaker, all throughout his entire political career.  There is nothing new about that!  But winning the future doesn’t require spinning the past!

So just how would this actually work?  Newt Gingrich has won only two States so far, his home State of Georgia with 76 delegates, and South Carolina with 23 delegates.  Please read my article on the South Carolina Primary titled Bamboozled in South Carolina.  He wouldn’t even have won those two States if it hadn’t been for his main benefactor Sheldon Adelson, who is one of America’s wealthiest men.  Adelson has already made a large personal contribution of more than 20 million dollars to Newt’s Political Action Committee and he promises to give even more.  This is just pocket change to Adelson, who is according to Forbes the 8th richest man in America.  He is a gambling casino magnate whose personal fortune is estimated to be worth over 25 billion dollars!  Adelson is just behind George Soros in terms of the size of his personal fortune, and together with the Koch brothers, Adelson is the Republican’s answer to the Democrat’s sugar-daddy, George Soros.

Neither Soros nor Adelson however contribute anything to real conservatives who believe in smaller government!  They only want to use their vast personal fortunes to try to control the government and to manipulate Washington to better serve themselves!  That is not the same thing as believing in small government. They want to try to manipulate our Congress, our Courts and our President for their own personal or corporate advantage.  The correct answer to all of George Soros' influence over our government is not to have Sheldon Adelson and the Koch brothers on our side throwing their money around too.  It is to put a reasonable cap on personal and corporate contributions to PACs, or to get the money out of politics all together by creating a National tax payer funded election channel on the radio and the TV, which would provide an equal amount of free air time to all serious candidates in Federal elections.

Once that is done we could possibly look into prohibiting paid political advertising altogether by the political slush funds called PACs which don’t really do anything to educate and inform the public about the candidates or the issues anyway. They are always in a perennial race with each other to see who can outspend the other and buy our elections. That’s not what I call free speech!  It doesn’t generally make for good elections when the side who spends the most money usually wins. Why don’t we try experimenting with the idea of truly free speech?  Perhaps we could just try it in one State first. Of course every State should pay for their own State Elections channel.  I don’t expect people in another State to pay for my State or local campaigns in Oregon, and that’s just the way it should be. But on Federal elections we should all pitch in for a National Elections Channel. That would finally get the influence of big money out of politics! But get ready for a big backlash from the Mainstream Media!

Getting back to Newt Gingrich, just how would winning the Republican Primary nomination for Newt Gingrich actually help Sheldon Adelson, or help win the future for America?  Well, leaving Mr. Adelson aside for the moment and just focusing on how a victory for Newt Gingrich in the Republican Primary could possibly win the future for America, I’m tempted to answer my own question.  It won’t!  Not even if you believe all of the campaign rhetoric coming from the Gingrich campaign. Nominating Newt Gingrich won’t win anything for anybody except Newt!  All of his electioneering bombast sounds mighty convincing, but I’m reminded that so does the silver tongued rhetoric of the Devil, whenever he opens his big mouth too.  Keep in mind that Newt’s campaign team hires only the best Madison Avenue political advisors and consultants with all of the money that Sheldon Adelson lavishes on his Presidential campaign to refresh Newt's tired old, worn out political image.  But former Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann once observed that, “the devil is in the details.”  And it most certainly is.  So for all of you who really want to know, here are the details again for Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich:

The Notes on Newt

Claim #1

Fact :
Newt Gingrich claims to be a supporter of smaller government.

This claim is false.  Newt has never been a fan of small government.  For example, in 1979 Newt Gingrich helped his fellow Georgian, President Jimmy Carter create the U.S. Dept. of Education, which was the largest single expansion of government in U.S. history.
Claim #2

Fact :
Newt’s Political Action Committee says that he will create new jobs here in America.

This claim is probably false.  Newt Gingrich supported the WTO, and he voted for GATT and NAFTA which paved the way for devastating job losses in America.
Claim #3

Fact :
Newt has changed over the years and he is a different man now.

This claim is false.  In 2008 Newt Gingrich recorded the “We Can Solve it” Global Warming TV commercial for the former Vice President, Al Gore along with Nancy Pelosi at his side.
In 2009-2010 Newt Gingrich traveled around the country with Al Sharpton and President Obama’s Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan promoting Obama’s new educational policies, including more Federal regulations and more government subsidies from Washington.
Claim #4

Fact :
Newt is the TEA Party’s choice.

This claim is false.  In the 2010 Special Congressional Election in New York’s 23rd Congressional District, Newt Gingrich supported the ultra-liberal candidate Dede Scozzafava over rival conservative candidate Doug Hoffman who truly was the TEA Party’s choice.
Claim #5

Fact :
Newt’s Contract with America in the 1990’s was good for America.

This claim has no merit. The Contract with America was a stroke of marketing genius, but there was nothing of any significance or lasting value that resulted from the Contract with America.  That’s why only six years later Ed Crane, the president of the CATO Institute wrote in the November 2000 issue of Forbes Magazine that, “The combined budgets of the ninety-five major programs that the Contract with America promised to eliminate have increased by 13%.”  And over the years since then, the Republican controlled Congress has approved discretionary spending that exceeded Bill Clinton’s requests!  The Contract with America was a political marketing ploy of the first magnitude, but it didn’t change much because it didn’t pull up the un-Constitutional weeds by their roots.  It just mowed them back a little bit.  And we all know what happens after you mow the weeds.  They just grow back again.
Claim #6

Fact :
Newt Gingrich loves and honors the Constitution.

This claim is false and is refuted by his very own words.  In 1995 Newt Gingrich delivered a speech to the Center for Strategic and International Affairs in which he wrote the following, “The American challenge in leading the world is compounded by our Constitution…  Either we are going to have to rethink our Constitution or we are going to have to rethink our process of making decisions.” This admission from a sitting Speaker of the House of Representatives is nothing less than a complaint that blames the United States Constitution for making America’s role in leading the world more difficult!
Claim #7

Fact :
Newt Gingrich is a family man with strong traditional values.

This claim is false.  Nothing could be further from the truth. Newt has had two divorces, three wives and numerous marital infidelities along the way.  If swearing to uphold his marital vows is any indication of Newt’s feelings toward vows in general, than I wouldn’t trust him to honor his vows to uphold the Constitution.  A philanderer doesn’t necessarily make for a good President or a good leader!

Furthermore Newt Gingrich is a big fan of Alvin and Heidi Toffler’s two books promoting their vision for a new world order, in which adultery, homosexuality, and other forms of promiscuity and immorality are all viewed as perfectly normal.  Newt even wrote the forward to their second book, The Politics of the Third Wave: Creating a New Civilization.  And he recommended reading Toffler’s first book, The Third Wave to all of his colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives.  He said that in order to understand him you had to read Toffler’s book.  These two books of Toffler lay waste the foundation of family values, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights which are the true basis for all of our freedoms in America!
Claim #8

Fact :
Newt is the smartest candidate in the Republican Primary.

This claim cannot be proven.  However even if he is, so what?  I would much rather elect someone with great integrity, than someone with above average intelligence… Take for instance the renowned historical figure of King Solomon.  You have probably heard of his legendary intelligence, but because of his own personal weakness as a philanderer, his Kingdom disappeared within a few short years of his death.  He did not build upon a solid foundation and he did not plan for his kingdom’s survival.  He built his house and his kingdom upon shifting sand. If the smartest man in the world wasn’t even smart enough to ensure his own kingdom’s survival, then it just goes to show you… What good is all of the intelligence in the world without virtue and good character?
